Elmer - Re: "This means the once ridiculed Celeron performs at only 5% less than an equally clocked and mucho hyped K7!!! "

That was a very astute observation.

By the way - do you recall how much external L2 cache that K7 benchmark used ?

AMD is "fond" of providing VERY LARGE caches in their "test" machines.

Paul

I thought the 39 Winstone score was interesting in that the Celeron crapped out with a 36 score on the same system. Perhaps you didn't see that these were run on Windows NT....while the K7 bench was run on Win98 where it scored 41 vs a Pentium II 500 at 32 on a "similarly" configured machine.
Usually you don't make the mistake of comparing benchmarks across different platforms and computer configurations but I guess the K7 makes you so nervous that you have to join in the tag team FUD with Paul. You usually shoot straight from the hip but you've clearly lapsed into a coma lately. Don't be so nervous, Intel stock will do better than the general market during this runup.

Dixon will smoke the Katmai less KNI but Intel will "segment it" into
notebooks...so it won't get benched against Katmai...too closely.
