A mystic tribal collective (the Easter Islanders) is not a good analogy to draw against a spacefaring super-race of humans which we are fast becoming. To those primitives we would be gods.

Many of the resources that are being decried as being "lost" were not even considered resources 100 years ago. Science and technology creates new resources and new markets.

Finally, how can resources be used up when we will soon have access to the entire solar system? Too many on this thread are shortsighted Luddites that have been indoctrinated by 1. schools; 2. the government; 3. archaic religions; and/or, 4. the overwhelmingly illiterate American media.
