>5 Geese will make some good meals. In the Central Flyway there is almost unrestricted hunting on Snows. They are so over populated they are ruining the nesting tundra.<

Indeed. One of my sons took two others. The resident geese population in Virginia (Northern Piedmont region) is astounding. They are all over my place. We picked up a few grouse also, but they are much fewer in number. Quail are almost non-existent.

I so very much wanted quail. My wife and I visited a wonderful little inn in the country of Virginia. The place is about an hour or so from civilization but has a restaurant that no doubt is amongst the most superb in America-- perhaps in the world. I had there a terribly delightful Raspberry Quail that I very much wanted to try and duplicate. Unfortunately I have not seen quail for quite some time.

>I used to do a lot of goose and deer hunting until the great outdoors got overrun with idiots.<

Which is why I hunt my own property (or that of friends) or on guided hunts. Guided hunts are really not my cup of tea. I was very successful this year, but always found “something” lacking. I likely will not do many more if any.

It is a dreadful thing indeed that idiots continue to drive so many good people from the simple joys of the outdoors; and that they exist in such remarkable quantities and come in such astounding variety leaves me hopeless that the situation will improve.

There is always fishing though. :)
