Microsoft, Sun to Enter Mediation

Microsoft Corp. said it will comply with a federal court directive to enter mediation with Sun
Microsystems Inc. to resolve a Sun lawsuit over the Java computer language. Federal District
Judge Ronald Whyte late Wednesday sent the two companies to either a court magistrate or to a
mutually selected arbiter to end their long-running dispute. Late last year, Whyte issued a
preliminary injunction against Microsoft in the case and Judge ordered the software company to
change its version of Java to meet Sun's specifications. Microsoft has said it plans to file an appeal
to the ruling by mid January.

Tech2000,

you've made some great calls on this Microsoft rally going
into earnings. I still think you're on the mark, and the
February 150 options are up about 100 percent since Tuesday.
Wish those Februaries had come out earlier!

Another thing to take note of, a week ago in IBD they showed
short interest in stocks, and I noticed a fairly high short
interest in Microsoft, there must be some link to the data. This
could also help propel MSFT along with the momentum, upgrades,
possible good earnings, and possible split announcement.

Ok, time to brave the snowstorm here in Chicago to head for the office...
