MSFT to sell MSN portal?

AT&T could also take stakes in or ownership of Microsoft media Web sites, such as the MSN portal and Web-based Slate magazine. In exchange, Microsoft would want money from AT&T and a deal to have AT&T adopt and promote Microsoft Windows NT software, USA Today said.

Can anyone explain why MSFT would want to sell its MSN portal and therefore its internet presence? I can see selling the access service but not the portal! Any comments?
