Cisco isn't making cable modems - they're selling their Cisco Networks Sofware to Sony, Samsung and others who will be building Cable Modems WITH CISCO LOGOS on the front pannel!!! That's significant! Perhaps you should do some homework. Cisco nearly owns all of the cable headend out there and have influenced the market away from DAVIC. Cisco's GSR's and uBR products look like they own Cable right now. And given the archictecture of these nets...at least right now...there is little play for ATM switching.... ASND missed the boat...

<Cable modems will be a commodity business where 3 COM
shines. ASND never was in at the edge commodity businesses.
Moreover 2/3 of the people have no cable access. DIAL access
and DSL will cover the rest.>

Anything becomes a commodity business when it is really successful. Fact is, right now the technology is evolving and there are opportunities being passed up by ASND. Most of the hardware money will be spent at the end of the last mile and more people will, over time get access because it currently is and will be the best broadband access technology for the consumer.
