You're right. There is no use in trying to justify moves like this. This has been the one piece of the whole equation that bothers me the most regarding this recent move.

I don't think anyone would deny that the internet will have a huge impact on people around the world. Its impact, unlike the biotech runup from a couple of years ago, will be much more immediate. AMZN has become in a few short years the bookstore to the WORLD. So who knows what the landscape will look like in two years. It way over my head. The other interesting point that I think might have some bearing on this. I read a few weeks ago that the U.S. has roughly 300 internet companies (I believe they're referring to publicly traded companies) while all of Europe has 5! So maybe we're witnessing a triumph of U.S. ingenuity. Just a guess.
