Anyway, I agree with you partially-- the judge won't
institute a remedy that immediately effects the company
financially.

However, if you think that Microsoft had to fight off lawsuits
before the decision--- just wait until after the decision.

Also, consider this: How much are the following privileges worth
to Microsoft?
1) Browser share
2) Control over desktop icons
3) Control over the first screen the user sees when the computer
gets turned on
4) privately negotiated contracts between Microsoft and the OEMs

These are all related, and Microsoft is going to lose substantial
power on all of them.

Microsoft's greatest fear is that the OS will be buried under
something else-- perhaps an "easy shell" put on by Gateway,
or starting up to a Netscape Browser on some other computer,
or a Java Console of some sort, maybe someone else's recycle
bin, someone else's "inbox" linking to a proprietary mail program...
you get the idea?
