BAT PR....... 18 months later.... let's review. Looks like the "order" was cancelled, Kummerow got out safely, and another "BAT PLAN" turned out to be just another pile of (NO)GUANO!! They even had pictures of the car. What a coincidence, the SEC is investigating them too. For Immediate Release: Media Contact: Bill Wason July 10, 1997 818/565-5555 FAX: 818/565-5559 BAT Establishes Distributor & JV Partner in Caribbean 55 "BAT CARtm" Electric Vehicles Sold B.A.T. International, (OTC: BAAT) has signed an agreement with BAT Cars of Barbados Inc. (BOB) of Bathseba, Barbados to purchase 55 electric "BAT CAR'stm". The production vehicle is based on the same automobile that recently established a long distance record on a single charge of 1043 miles with Kummerow zinc air batteries. Worldwide coverage of the event, including CNN, has resulted in a tremendous interest in the vehicle, drive system and battery technologies from auto distributors and development groups around the world. BAT is currently negotiating with buyers from numerous Latin American and Asian countries for similar purchase order and development contracts. This vehicle order represents one of the largest single purchase commitments in the industry. BAT plans on working with Barbados to establish it as a showcase economic development and clean transportation center to introduce electric vehicles and bicycles throughout the Caribbean. Barbados is located in the heart of the Caribbean Islands and is one of the cleanest, most advanced countries in the region. The literacy rate is higher than the U.S. (90%) and average income is the highest in the Caribbean (twice that of Mexico). The island is renowned for having the cleanest air in the world (at sea level) and is strongly committed to keep it that way as the island economy grows. Hotel and tourist businesses have established "green" programs and market their destination as environmentally friendly. Barbados has 80 miles of pristine beaches, clear blue waters and clean skies. The recent fouling of Tokyo Bay by an oil tanker that ran aground and spilled over 4 million gallons of oil has not gone unnoticed in Barbados. The island, like Japan, is almost entirely dependent on imported oil, with gasoline selling for about $3 per gallon. Electric vehicles offer a pollution free alternative that does not cause oil spills and has a fuel cost that is one-fourth the cost of gasoline. BAT is planning to work with BAT Cars of Barbados, Inc. to establish a joint venture vehicle assembly facility on Barbados to produce and distribute electric and super-efficient vehicles and electric bicycles. There is a highly skilled work force on the island and various financing and tax incentives that make it an attractive subsidiary location. BAT will be shipping components for the "BAT CARtm" to Barbados from various supplier sources worldwide. An electric mini-bus and pickup truck are also planned using a longer version of the same chassis that will carry 10+ passengers or several thousand pounds of cargo. Larger vehicles are expected to be in strong demand as silent "green tour" shuttle vehicles or for various business and individual needs. A range extender will also be included on lead acid battery versions that will double the effective range to 100 to 300 miles. Pricing is expected to be well below any competing electric vehicles.
