Dawg try to remember Peter Lynch's advice know what you own and why you own it. My dad was a doctor and continually lost money on his investments till about six years ago. A bull market has helped but his attitude in terms of what to expect out of his stocks has helped even more. I rarely buy anything anyone suggests on SI because By the time I've done my homework either I have missed the move or decided that the stock wasn't for me. My best advice to you is to try to find co's with predictable growth that are temporarily out of favor. They do show up and in fact many of Tim's picks have that characteristic even though his time horizon is relatively short term. Look at OSI and XYLN for example. The latter is still a great value play and the former will always to to buy on big dips because its underlying growth is about 30% a year. The reason that they both happen to be buy out candidates is that the businesses are good.
