I think CPQ splits 2:1 in July after pushing through 100 only if they announce a spin-off of Alta Vista or they make a separate division out of it, thus giving the perception of a future spin-off. The board will also have to increase the number of shares they can issue. Right now it is only 3 billion. That is not enough for a 2:1 split. If no announcements on Alta-Vista, I am afraid CPQ does not split again until Nov. 2000. I think Y2K and millenium issues keep CPQ from moving too high this fall.

Lynn: I see CPQ splitting 2:1 with price in the low 100s. Declared in Dec., '99, payable Jan., '00.

In the past EP has frequently indicated they like to see the price in the $35-$45 range. However, that was before DEC. I wouldn't be surprised if they raise this post-split target to the mid-60s and make moves to increase the dividend substantially. IBM seems to be the new model for comparison, I think they will gravitate in that direction. JMO, for what it is worth. Any other thoughts?
