Actually, it is more than advertising that brings people to Amazon. It is an out of sight website with customer comments, online reviews, magazine articles, etc. All the information you could possibly want about CDs of interest, artists, etc.

If TSIG can have a website only half as compelling As Amazon's they will make a LOT of money!

Your post succinctly illustrates why AMZN doesn't make any money...

The high cost of advertising to maintain and gain customers.

As you noted, no matter how well recognized AMZN's name is, internet shoppers will be very price savy and do a lot of comparison shopping.

High advertising equals higher prices to earn slimmer margins?

Is this such a great business plan?

Need to sell more books! Less cd's...
