Toronto stocks rally on climb in base metals

Base metals led all but two of Toronto's 14 subgroups upward. The two modest losers were pipelines and retail.

Toronto turnover was hefty at 145 million shares worth C$2.6 billion.

Climbing shares outstripped decliners 611 to 390, with 300 issues steady.

Online auctioneer Bid.Com International Inc. (Toronto:BII.TO - news) was busy again, rising C$0.45 to C$5.50 and the most actively traded issue at 7 million shares.

On the week, the 300 index surged more than 346 points or 5.3 percent from Monday's open of 6522.18, the start of the trading year. The TSE 60 index of large companies has added 6.4 percent since its opening at 375.98 points on Monday.
