Hi Lather, somehow the fact that you were selected to be foreman does not surprise me. The fact that the defendant was bad - - usually, people who messed up, but don't make a habit of it, tend to get breaks along the way. I have never defended an innocent person in an actual criminal trial, although I did not do criminal defense for very long. The fact that the defense attorney was an idiot - - well, you don't know what he had to work with. I mean, the guy was guilty, and he was bad, it is really, really hard to think of clever things to do with a case like that. But, most criminal defense attorneys are kind of drones, the money is pretty good, the issues are usually clear-cut, and it doesn't require much paperwork, not like civil litigation where you paper each other to death with pleadings and motions and memoranda and appeals.

BTW, I mentioned Fafherd and The Grey Mouser, and I never followed up on it. I am now looking at "Farewell to Lankhmar," by Fritz Leiber, the fourth and final volume of stories about these two heroes. The endpaper says Leiber won the Hugo five times, the Nebula three times, he was granted the World Fantasy Award, and was the only writer ever to receive the Grand Master Award of the Science Fiction Writers of America, the Grand Master Award of the Horror Writers of America, and The World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement. He was a pretty good writer.

I have not read any of the books I got from the library, I started Neuromancer again, for some reason I am just not reading much these days. I am in a cleaning-up phase, and watching movies, at theaters and at home, and I am going to go finish "Mercury Rising." See ya!
