Your new monitor will work just fine on your old system. You shouldn't need to change a thing. Once you hook it up, you'll probably want to set the card to a much higher resolution, and it's possible that your video card won't handle this, but unlikely if you upgraded it recently. This shouldn't be hard to do--if it's unclear how once you get that far, just ask for further help.

I know that i'm a bit late but my dream monitor these days can be found at WWW.SGI.COM. They offer an excellent fat panel (17.x inch) with something like 1600x1024....

It's not free but with it can be paid with just a good options trade...
