Imho "whisper numbers" began as a total fraud but have grown into a useful metric. There are a number of sites who put a lot of energy into making estimates of whisper numbers, and a lot of investors who look at them to get another data point. Haven't you peeked at dell at www.earningswhispers.com? Michael and the other CEOs could eliminate any impact from whisper numbers any time they want; all they have to do is pre-announce good news or bad. Frank btw, Dellfan, don't you think an important part of any CEOs job is to sell their company's viability to the financial community?
