The main reason I suggested Data General is three fold :

1 - The Clariion business was growing very quickly. They started this business from zero and it grew to $ 500 million in sales for fiscal 1997. The company made a product transition from scii to fiber channel that did not go well during the first 3 qtrs of fiscal 1998. The fiber channel product is completed and ready to go. My assumption at this point is that fiber channel sales will pick-up and the Clariion product can re gain its growth.

2 - Last summer Dell signed a re-sale and development agreement with Data General for the fiber channel Clariion. H/P has been Data General's largest OEM for the Clariion, my assumption is that Dell will do a good job at selling this product. Dell had the opportunity too sign this agreement with many other companies. I think it was a big plus for Data General, that Dell selected Clariion over other Fiber Channel products. My guess is that Dell selected the best product it could find to place it's name on.

3 - Data General's Aviion servers have found some success in the Windows N/T server environment.

On the down side this stock has done very, very poorly. My hope is that the worst is behind them, and that the fiber channel market will begin to open up. The Dell deal has some potential. Do your research and give me your feed back.
