Jubimer,

In my opinion, I don't see the ADO making a comeback for the following reasons:
1) It is a stand alone box used in linear, tape based edit rooms
2) The industry trend is now going, no rushing, towards non-linear all-in-one box workstation solutions (Mac, NT or SGI based--Avid Technologies owns the Broadcast and Film Markets) with videotape as an acquisition and distribution format only-- all the editorial and effects work is done in the workstation.
3) The only editorial work that will remain in the videotape realm will be High Definition (1080) so there might be a small market there, but only until the workstations get the bandwidth to handle large amounts of Hi Def material and that won't be all that long (IMHO). Even the work currently being done in the high resolution D1 realm is now migrating to platforms like the SoftImage which is on an Intergraph NT box. The total system costs about what an ADO did when it was state of the art.
4) I work on an Avid. I cut Network Broadcast Television. We go to air out of the Avid Media Composer (actually we output to Sony Digital Betacam Tape and that is used for air playback), but all the effects that a $150,000 ADO did 8 years ago is now handled by board inside the Macintosh (or by a peripheral connected to the Mac or NT box). Cost: less than $25K.

I hope all this makes sense and helps you in your search.

I really hope AXC takes off this year. I'm sitting on a bunch that I've been accumulating for about 4 years at an average of $3.25 per share.

BTW, Post Magazine (a TV trade mag) said in last month's issue (which I do not have any more) that web-hosting is becoming a new market for large post-production facilities which have run into hard times since all their editorial business is going to small shops that are Avid based. I thought THAT was interesting.

Stay well.

Tony
