Paul,

When I called AMD a "brash upstart", I wasn't necessarily referring to them in a chronological sense. I know they have been around for quite a few years, but it hasn't been until recently that they have been capable of mounting a viable threat to you-know-who. So when I referred to them as an upstart, it was in the sense that they have, in my mind, only recently become a serious challenger.

Since this is gonna be a great football weekend, here's a little simple gridiron analogy in keeping with the spirit. Remember the Packers from the 60s, my beloved Steelers from the 70s, and those 49ers from the 80s? Total domination of their market, right? Well, things change, pal. A little slower in the business world than the sports world perhaps. But they change nonetheless. Now I'm not foolish enough to say that Intel is about to become the ex-champs of the 90s, just that smugness and complacency, like greed and jealousy, are inherent human weaknesses that are prevalent in all of Man's endeavors, be it sports, business, investing, whatever. And I think that perhaps both you and Intel may possibly be suffering from that very same affliction at this time.

Of course, should you disagree, feel free to call your broker next week. I'm sure he can find 10,000 shares of AMD for you to short.

Dale

P.S. Thanks for the lesson on the history of chipmaking.

Paul,

AMD has been making Intel compatible CPUs since around 1976 - 23 years ago.

John Elway showed up in Denver not long after that, but it took him a few years to win the Super Bowl. Nobody in Denver remembers the bad times anymore.

Paul,

"...you should figure out how to make money. AMD hasn't figured it it out yet."

Seems to me they might just be catching on, huh?

Living in it may be hazardous to your portfolio.
