wily,

Memory chips: The battle for control of the Hyundai-LG Semicon merger will go on for months, but Hyundai will end up running the new business. Yet the company won't cut enough of the fat to stay competitive, and profits will elude it and most other DRAM suppliers for much of 1999. The reason: Despite production cutbacks-and promises of cutbacks-OEMs should enjoy a plentiful supply of parts, Rambus or otherwise

This seems rosy, but this comment I sort of discount because it is too broad a swipe at a much more complicated issue, no facts to back it up...Reminds me of that song "Don't worry, Be happy"

wily,

Rosy enough?

Message 7186337

Intel is shipping prototypes of its Camino chip set in the current quarter, and the major PC OEMs are expected to have systems on the market by the third quarter that match the 0.18-micron Katmai processor, Camino and RD-DRAMs.

Intel, Rambus and some of the more bullish analysts are predicting that about 250 million units of the Direct RDRAMs will ship in 1999.

I would rather believe what Intel and Rambus are saying than what some other source says.

ps - In October I replaced my 486 with a PII and couldn't be happier with what it can do . The 486 and the PII are now networked in my home office. I can't wait until October when I can buy myself a PIII-Camino-Rambus setup and retire the 486 to the closet. This is just a glimse of some of the pent-up demand that exists out there.
