Good Morning Duane

The new service allows them to control the use of the line
(bandwidth) far more efficiently. It delegates 1% of the
bandwith for voice traffic and the other 99% is then utilized
for digital traffic. This allows you to do both. We only are
using 2% of what is capable right now with voice on our lines.

Best Regards

WB

<<I'm a little confused about one thing, do you mean that you can use this service and line for both the internet and for regular telephone calls? I figured that they would prevent people from being able to do both.>>

It is possible because they use a much higher frequency for the data than the voice. It's like the two split signal of FM Stereo. You can hear two different sounds on each speaker at the same time coming from the same source. Or better, it's like the reason you can receive many channels on TV and be hook on only one cable. The higher frequency used for the data packets permit a much higher transmission speed than when the voice channel is used (normal modem).
