As far as oil service mutual funds, the only ones I know of are the Fido, Rydex and the new Gabelli.

In tracking the OSX and the Fido fund since we started the ODB web site, they ended up the year exactly the same (not counting loads or dividends, if any).

There are 15 stocks in the OSX. It is simple to just buy the stocks via a deep discount broker, like Ameritrade, for $8 a trade and establish your own personal fund with no mgmt fees or loads (just trades costs and spreads on the buy/sell).

FWIW, BigDog has interest from at least four billion-dollar+ outfits that have an interest in FundDog starting a offshore assets fund or partnership to buy "opportunities" -- not stocks, but iron and such. If these guys are thinking this way, it may be a leading indicator that others are coming to the sector via stocks.

Of course without sustained higher oil prices, its all fluff. Nothing will improve the sector's actual business except for sustained higher oil prices. But there will be ample trading opps along the way while we remain in...The Dead Zone (watch for an upcoming article at the Raging Bull website by the RagingDog himself, talking about The Dead Zone and spotlighting one stock that could be bigger that The Dead Zone --guess which one, Slider.)
