Here's one answer which fits, at least at my house - heating a cup of cold coffee in a microwave oven.

My particular microwave (an older panasonic) allows any 2 digit number of seconds, or minutes and seconds. An entry of 1:30 or an entry of 90 yield identical cooking times. Who can fathom the Japanese mind when it comes to user interface?

So if Dad asked his son to reheat a cup of coffee, 50 seconds is less than a minute and 25 seconds (1:25 is 85 seconds) but still less than 90 seconds. 90 seconds is about right for a full cup on my microwave.

BTW I don't think this is the right answer but it's my first stab...
