O.T.
I am(was) a production planner by trade, and an inactive member of A.P.I.C.S., and the level of inventory(of everything) today vs even 10 years ago is a view of black Vs white. At no stage in the supply chain exists any level of inventory.
As our country has learned more about the truth of the "Why & How" of the workings Japan and their daily (or even hourly) "cooking of the books" we understand why even when embraced J.I.T. could not yield the same results for us in the U.S. it was claimed in Japan. Also, Japan is a small island, the U.S., the largest industrial country in the modern world. J.I.T. here was often in our real world in the U.S. closer to Just In Case. Our manufacturing companies seem to be returning to
"flow" material tracking with a little extra inventory.
This is just another case where the "new paradigm" conflict could not co-exist with the real world.
