I don't underestimate the power of Wal-Mart. And, margins are already rotten on Web e-commerce.

However, just because Wal-Mart enters the fray doesn't mean the game is over. A brand name outside the Web does not automatically confer Web acceptance. If it did, then Barnes and Noble would be doing more business on-line than Amazon, and Disney would be calling its new portal Disney.com or ABCportal.com instead of Go.com.

Walmart is online, of course, and offering 45% off bestsellers

How long will it be before the computer user can read the review at Amazon, and then just tell the computer (using normal speech, not a series of mouse clicks and keyboard entries), "find me the best price on this book and buy it"?
Of course, there is already www.acses.com, but it is relatively unknown and a bit more time-consuming than just using a single vendor's site.
