good source for erasable product info (emedia professional)

emediapro.net

is a nice link to track once a month. it's also a hard copy
magazine available at borders books. they have useful drive & media
market survey results in a column called "CD Tracker", but they
haven't broken out write-once CD-R disk sales from erasable CD-RW
or DVD-erasable yet.

for january 1999, dana parker has a piece running down all
the writeable DVD phase change formats, entitled
"Writable DVD: A Guide for the Perplexed", mentioning in passing
some patent issues, as she has with previous columns. see

emediapro.net

on another track, market penetration numbers for DVD rewriteable
drives are very conservatively estimated by ray freeman,
founder of OSTA, now trying to draft a MultiRead standard
for DVD-erasable as he did for CD-RW. his numbers for drives,
much more trustworthy than manufacturer estimates are:

1998 140,000 units
1999 400,000
2000 1,200,000

not counting any camcorder explosion -- this is from:

varbusiness.com

dataquest pegs erasable drives at 6M for year 2002. i'm waiting in
earnest for ballpark media estimates other than from the makers themselves.
