somewhat correct. Nobody has taken the trouble to net out of what are called revenues of various net companies, what would be similar to transfer payments from the left pocket to the right pocket. After netting - sorry to use the term netting - no pun intended - netting out that amount, then we'd be able to see the true "organic" growth of web-enabled companies. For example, how much of web revenue growth is being taken from non-web advertising, etc. A lot of reported revenue of these firms is also just the spending of IPO money - company A raised $30 million in an IPO and spreads it around and it shows up as revenue on company B's income statement.

Here's something new. Many portals and web sites get revenue from selling ads - banner ads, some are animated, etc. But it takes time to download those ads, which slows down your web searching. The animated ones really slow things up pretty bad. So, if somebody came up with a way for we, the people - to elimate the ads, not only would our net surfing be faster, but it would really throw a wrecking ball into the business models of some internet companies. There is such a product - atguard.com has developed a piece of software that blocks ads, it speeds surfing better than anything I have found. The issue here is - letting the public know such technology exists. Atguard is not the only firm with ad blocking technology. btw - atguard also elimates cookies. As one benefit of the net is to democritize societies by the wide dissemination of information, I for one, herald the emergence of this ad and cookie blocking technology. btw, it will selectively allow cookies that are necessary for secure web sites that need to find out that you...are you. PS - Atguard is a private company (I think) and there are a couple similar products out there.
