Stops on Internet stocks.

Sue,

As you know, a sell stop becomes a market order if it is hit and there is no guarantee that you will get filled even close to where it was placed. You are at the mercy of the market if your stop is hit. If there is sufficient size near your order and not too many other sellers, then it will probably work out ok. But if a bunch of market sell orders hit at the same time that your stop is triggered and there aren't enough bids, look out. You could get filled several dollars from where your stop was placed.

There's a note on the order entry screen at Ameritrade's web site that suggests NOT using market orders in Internet stocks. A stop order becomes just that and it's very dangerous. I still believe that one of these days the Internet stocks are going to crash and many who are long will try to get out at the same time. That's the day that many will lose a fortune in one day. I'm still not trading the Internet stocks because I'm convinced that the minute I buy, the crash will come. Best of luck with your investments in the Internet stocks and may you get good fills on your stops in the unfortunate event they are hit.

Dan
