Dear Planet IT Member:

The new Planet IT Roundtables are about to begin!

If you've been a Planet IT member for more than a month, you know
about the Roundtables. If you're a new member, you may not. Either
way, Planet IT Roundtables can help you learn, discuss, and
implement vital, cutting-edge technologies. They also let you join
small, select groups of like-minded IT professionals led by
well-known industry experts.

Because you're a Planet IT member, joining the Roundtables is
absolutely free.
Sign up now to participate in the Roundtables at
planetit.com

The Roundtable discussions begin tomorrow, Jan. 13, and will end on
Jan. 31. If the first group of Roundtables--which ran in November--is
any indicator, these new Roundtables are likely to fill up quickly.
So to avoid being shut out, sign up now.

Here are just a few benefits you'll gain by joining a Planet IT
Roundtable:
* Learn new skills, technologies, and practices.
* Download, at no cost, book chapters, white papers, and other texts.
* Discuss what you've read with the author of those texts and a
small, select group of other IT professionals.
* Develop new contacts -- IT professionals working on the same
technologies you care most about.

To get the most benefit, join the Roundtables that match your
mission-critical projects. Planet IT Roundtables are organized by
the same technology topics you care most about: databases, desktop
computing, Internet/intranets, mobile computing, storage, Y2K and
more.

To help you get the most from the Planet IT Roundtables, all
sessions are led by some of the industry's most important thinkers
and writers. Here's the lineup for January:

* Databases: Jeanine Fournier, a senior analyst with the Aberdeen
Group consulting firm, leads a Roundtable on integrating enterprise
applications.

* Desktop Computing: David Karp, author of the book Windows 98
Annoyances, leads a Roundtable on exploiting the power of Windows 98
for the Internet -- and avoiding its pitfalls.

* E-Commerce: Paula Klein, features editor of InternetWeek, leads a
Roundtable on Transformations, a landmark study on E-commerce use at
hundreds of corporations, and what the survey's findings mean for
your E-commerce strategy.

* Mobile Computing: June Langhoff, a consultant and author of The
Telecommuter's Advisor, and Eric Grevstad, editor-in-chief of Home
Office Computing, lead a Roundtable on what it takes to make
telecommuting effective.

* Internet/Intranets: Winn Schwartau, a renowned Internet security
expert and author of Time Based Security and Information Warfare,
leads a Roundtable on how hackers invade corporate networks, and how
to keep them out.

* Year 2000: Oliver Rist, technical director of GNC Labs, leads a
Roundtable on how to test your systems for Y2K compliance.

* Networking: Simson Garfinkle, founder of Sandstorm Enterprises
and author of the new book How to Stop Spam, leads a Roundtable on
conducting network-security sweeps and stopping spam from clogging
your networks.

* Storage: Mike Mihalik, VP of engineering at storage and
peripherals vendor LaCie, leads a Roundtable on storing faster,
smarter and smaller with FireWire and other new storage technology.

* Systems Management: Mike Silvey, a London-based consultant with
Cap Gemini, leads a Roundtable on how to sell your most ambitious
systems-management projects to upper management.

With big names like these, each Roundtable's limit of 100
participants is likely to reached fast. After a Roundtable is filled,
other Planet IT members can only "audit" it: They can read the
proceedings, but can't post questions or replies.

By popular demand, the maximum number of active participants in each
Roundtable has been increased from 25 to 100. But remember: The
November Roundtables were fully subscribed in less than 24 hours --
some in as little as 30 minutes! These new Roundtables are likely to
fill up fast, too.

So sign up now for Planet IT Roundtables! Join other forward-thinking
IT professionals at: planetit.com.
