That was precisely the dilemma I was highlighting. My point was that it could be costly to both build an island net AND build the number of bridges to the mainland to make it all work seamlessly.

Another factor raises its head though. It would seem logical to me that within the controlled environs of an island network, or one that was tightly controlled, performance levels could be kept optimal. This should be the case for ATHM, where on-net links/sessions are concerned.

But what happens when a user leaves the safety and control of the host network, and ventures out onto the greater Internet. Lumpiness in delivery occurs, and the cause of this will not always be apparent to the end user. In fact, it seldom would be apparent as far as I know, and the cause may be attributed incorrectly.

I'll leave it at that.. since I'm running short on anti aircraft provisions right now ;-)
