Hello kid1. I am no expert but I've heard and read that large high quality gems can be valued in the $1000 plus per carat range. If you figure we have 10.5 + 8 + 6 = 25 carats for the three largest stones the value for these three could be anywhere between $20,000 to $40,000 and probably closer to $40,000.

229 carats @ $301/carat = $68,929

IMVHO I would say about 50% of the value comes from these three stones.

Andy

kid1,
I have not read Kaiser's 15 page report on Winspear, nor do I wish to.
He was way off the mark with the Alberta Diamond Play.
I will look to Sudhir Khanna and Ron Struthers for advice on this play. Kaiser's record speaks for itself.

Hi kidl,
The percentage of value attributable to the three large stones will be very high. It is also a non issue if you know anything about what makes a good deposit. It is clear that Kaiser stepped out of his element on that particular question. Given the apparent diamond size distribution for the results to date, the three large stones are part of the normal stone size distribution for Snap Lake kimberlite. What this means is that about 4% of the total carat weight recovered from the 6000 tonne sample will be represented by 10 carat stones-in otherwords, I predict Winspear will recover about 27 ten carat stones from 6000 tonnes. Of course there will be even more stones between 1 and 10 carats in size. There is about a 60 % probability of recovering a 30 carat stone. This has been stated a number of times and in a few diferent ways, but it apparently is going over the top of most peoples heads. The high percentage of value attributable to the large stones is why the per tonne value is high. This is the essence of why Snap Lake is so valuable-the very favorable diamond size distribution. This is the very same reason for the high value in every outstanding diamond deposit. It is also why at at this time no one has yet seen the parcel of diamond from the two 100 tonne bulks. The actual size distribution tells all and could precipitate a hostile takeover at a price less than what Snap Lake is likely worth or what management thinks they can get for it. I recall Bishop demonstrated the same ignorance when he suggested that the three large stones were a fluke.
