"Hutch, the Loyal Opposition, tries to distill all market truths quantitatively."

Hehe, I like that, Loyal Opposition.

"Having announced all this, can one of you point me toward some concise education on long term LEAP puts on the S&P 500? I begin to think that might be my last gamble."

Before you go and buy a leap Put option on the S&P 500, might I suggest that you time the top of the market first. Others and I are suspecting a break down on the market in early April-June time frame. And as such, buying a 2001 Put option wouldn't be worth wild. Short term options are your desire.

I might suggest that if you read only one book, look at:
'Options as a Strategic Investment', Lawrence McMillan
Or if you got big bux: 'Investment Derivatives for Index Options'

PS: I once said that if gold ever got to $600+, them with the guns get it all. Whether that's the governments or the citizens. I own a Beretta 92-F, and IAI Javelina 10mm. {barely legal, hunting pistol}
