To go farther in your questioning, what is really necessary in all our society's economic life? Certainly less than half the trees have to be cut,no car has to be produced (they lived 100 years ago without one and these were the good old days?)and the list of items can get quite large what does not have to be produced.Maybe that's one problem with gold nowadays.People spend their earnings on things they can enjoy today and mostly not on permanent value items like gold.Buy a gold Maple Leaf and you got something for generations to use as a value holder beyond all borders and political systems. You buy a skidoo or a Motorhome or other like consumer item and the value is gone in less than 20 years at the most. Then look what happened to the 'paper' when they put a number on it and a few curly lines and someone's visage and they say that's represents value!I don't have to show you samples from years ago.It happened just within the last 10 years that many currencies got massacred and even the almighty US$ does not buy anymore what it did 10 years ago.And with the present US government and the circus they have in Washington, who has any trust in their stability should have his/her head examined.Gold will survive the present 'anti currency' trend and will prove as a value keeper once again against all wishes of Wallstreet and all internuts populating the market.
