Hi Chalu 2 OT to the intent of the Dell Thread and On Topic to the subject at hand: Appropriate Posting. You make a good post on the subject and one that I personally appreciate. Chalu 2: "If you don't cry foul at the starting point, the thread stops being interesting to most people, or worth their time to wade through the trivia" The (point in the) line has to be drawn somewhere. But where that beginning point connects the line depends on when we draw the line. That drawing of the line is the subjective part. Now I am not saying talking about sports, recipes the weather and things beneath the earth and above the heavens (small h :)could not be classified as trivia in a clearly marked thread, like for instance, Dell. What I am saying sometimes is not so cut and dry and easily described. What does one do with "Dell looks good (and it does)and by the way I took the opportunity to view the pictures you sent me and etc. or Yes here we go looks good for the longs I can remember a time when we were(wallowing in our mutual brilliancy or whatever). In my mind if the post will help, in some fashion, my ability to engage the Market then it has a greater degree of acceptance as to what should be tolerated. Here is an other part of the problem, when someone who regularly contributes information opinion and inquiry towards that end, decides to share his or her statements with another threadster which does not feed me, I for one have little if any reservations about that. Someone else may. If on occasion an event that has wide interest and becomes a topic that takes on its own life in many threads than it will run its course, I can understand that. Those of us who rather not see that take place need not contribute and if its course seems artificially prolonged than we have that option of calling the police and or to self police. You are accurate in that we have threads that are designed for on going discussion of a particular subject. Yet while I do not in a specific reproving manner direct this to you, those of us that expect an isolated and temporarily stated personal expression to be directed solely to the thread that most closely seems appropriate may not be correct. If the threadster is merely expressing his or her exuberance about something totally disconnected with the intent of the thread I would look at: What it is that the person is expressing? Then decide whether or not that expression required some sort of action on my part. You did so and took it to "offending threadster". That threadster expressed his response in kind. How kind either of you where to each other is a matter of record and for those of interested that record it is there to be viewed. You of course knew we have an SI Admin. Bob, there for us to make your case and you, I would assume did not, you made it here and further addressed it here. It was off course, off topic in one sense, yet not in another. My thoughts on the subject might be more of an interest to the SI Admin. then the intent of this thread, yet I thought it appropriate to express them here. We do self police and we do cross a thread line that goes beyond the simple stated intention of the thread. This is also a matter of degree and appropriateness. It is somewhat subjective and does warrant a certain amount of discussion (of course until begins to take on the form of an ongoing forum that if allowed to continue would contribute to the detriment of the thread ) Perhaps a thread entitled "Appropriate Posting What do you think it is ?" would be in order. Regards, QT
