Mike, in '97 we all "knew" that if just a fraction of the $200-600B estimated to be spent on Y2K went to our favorite Y2K company we'd all be rich. Heck, 1/10 of 1% comes to $200-600M, right?!

OK, maybe it might yet happen, but, sadly, so far not so good.

Now we turn to Plan B: Y2K will be on every front page and leading every newscast. Yes, I think that will happen. Heck, David Letterman jokes about Y2K on almost every show now. Last Thursday when I had jury duty, the one question the judge asked a computer science student (half-seriously) was whether he was working on solving Y2K.

But, do we all think extreme interest in Y2K will boost the price of Y2K stocks? If so, some of them, most of them, or all of them? And when?

Personally, I think it will first take a high-profile Y2K related disaster. Then I think it will take CIOs being quoted as saying "We thought we could do it ourselves, but we now realize we need help... and fast." Just how long a wait that is, I don't have a clue.
