Bill,
regarding purchases of stocks that are hot, be careful. One approach is to find and buy them when they are unknown and have a little patience. Zeev and me like to do this for example.

If you couldn't or didn'T want to do this and you find a stock, first of all, define a maximum limit you would like to spend. There are some rules for this, though in order to avoid becoming trapped..

#1) NEVER EVER place a market order in a fast moving issue, especially not at the open or the close. Always place limit orders

#2) Limit orders have an additional beauty. I'm not totally familiar with NASD Regs but as I see it, they are prioritized over market orders to some extent..

#3) Often stocks surge in the first 2 hours of trading just in order to recede a bit btw. 10 and 11.00. You can capitalize on this by being patient

#4) don't worry if the stocks surges and you are not part. There are other playsout there that might be equally interesting..

best wishes
CROSSY

Bill,

Like you, I came in late on PROG. I got the tip from Zeev in the afternoon on Friday. The stock had popped upwards to 14 1/2. By the time I could at least glance at the balance sheet and decide this was "at least not hot air", the stock was at 15 3/4 where I bought. I made that buying decision for 3 key reasons:

1. Great value for the internut play
2. The strong revenue news hit the wire at 10:30 a.m., on Friday. That means that plenty of buyers, especially institutions, didn't have the time to perform minor due diligence.
3. So, I decided that Monday could very well see more buyers coming in. That's my gamble. People over the weekend will have done their homework and potentially want to get in, early.

This could be a $30.00 or $40.00 stock in short order. If you picked up shares at say, $18.00, at the open, would that be so bad? Of course, I could be totally wrong.
