DELL with Linux replaces IBM servers.

<<Randy Kessel, who operates a computer center that monitors Southwestern Bell's Kansas and Missouri phone networks, says Linux has proved to be far more reliable than Microsoft's Windows NT and much less expensive than Unix, long the standard for corporate computing. "It runs well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg."

Kessel now has Linux running on 36 desktop computers and is preparing to replace four IBM servers with several smaller Dell servers running Linux. Not only is the software less expensive, but the stability of the operating system cuts support costs.>>

rudedog:<delete temporary inut files> I am already doing this. In fact, I have to thank Schwab's "technical" hot line, for making this a routine with me. I think I have been using windows 98 for two months now, and have been clearing all temporary files, as well as history files, four times per week. I forgot also to mention to you that I am indeed using IE4 as a broser. My software is all new, that is, purchased by me new, at Costco. In the beginning (early on) I did download some kind of an update, but this was from msft. Last night, very late, I did take rec of jerry miller as per 88357, and downloaded something. I should not have to be worrying about C drive space, since I store absolutely nothing. I suspect some kind of a virus, but I have always assumed that windows 98 along with the "plus" package from msft, would contain very good virus screeners. Perhaps I need to download improvements of same. Would it do any good to purchase, once again, a fresh copy of windows 98? I believe I was one of the first to buy it, on public availability. (I do not knowingly have a beta version.) All I want is a reliable trading machine; no storage of absolutely anything. I am sure you get the picture. I had local place increase my memory twice; they also installed a card US robotics modem 56K. The machine itself is a versa 6000H, and up to now has been an absolute workhorse. Finally, is there a simple way to actually "look" at whether miscellneius work files, are being generated, which have no purpose? Is there a site which I can pay to work this out? I do not want to throw the machine out. Hate solving problems this way. (I'm one of those which enjoys keeping old cars going nicely, and enjoys it.) But I can not afford to be thinking about this during trading. Thank you!!
