No doubt you're correct about the CMOS - sorry for making a post in my sleep.
I love using FETs as they're much easier to design with and far more forgiving than bipolar devices. I'm more into the analog world from -0- to 10+ GHz and I'll tell you the higher frequencies can often be very taxing when it comes to board layout.

It used to be that one could design a circuit and test his prototype by having the layout guys taping it up on a single-layer board but times have changed quite a bit. I remember that shortly after we got our first plotter I got this nutty idea that it could be used to paint etch resist on bare boards for prototypes - I spent an entire weekend trying to find the best ink to use. Sure wish I had patented that idea as you can get it about anywhere now, problem is that unless you're doing RF you're likely doing multiple-layer boards so it's easier to send off the CAD drawings to an outside source.
