KZAP,

I have Norton Utilities 3.0 and it has a neat utility called Zip Rescue. This has saved my bacon more than once. You create a rescue disk on a zip disk which contains the basic Windows OS FAT files etc.

Then if your hard drive crashes it is relatively simple to restore. I have had to recover my hd twice with it and it works beautifully.
