Dave,

Certainly no one is right all the time and this includes me, but Intel back then (and now IMO) is a long term no brainer. The difference between Carl being wrong and me being wrong is that Carl is suppose to be giving advice for a living. AMD is not hurting anyone except themselves. In fact, at least when Carl made his prediction several years ago they were making a decent profit. And what ever happened to Cyrix <gg>. Oh yeah.....they threw in the towel and suckered NSM in to buying them.

Re: market share

Market share can be expressed in terms of units, revenue, or profit. Intel still has virtually 100% of the profit share at the low end. Anyone can increase unit or revenue market share if they are willing to sell at a loss. Bottom line is that right now Intel is reporting record revenues, earnings, and obscene margins while AMD in struggling to remain financially solvent. There is real doubt as to whether or not AMD will be able to survive on their own.

Re: MU and dram

I have stayed away from either side of the dram business since the beginning of the downturn in late 95. I am not sure if the cycle is turning for real but I wouldn't bet against it either. I think the answer will be much more evident in 6 months. Regardless, even if we are at the beginning of a real up cycle for memory (and not just a false start <g>), I think MU is ridiculously overvalued at these levels. Seems to me that this segment trades on emotion and hype rather than logic and reality during both good and bad times. I'd rather play Vegas then guess which way MU is heading <g>.

Good luck,

FF
