The NGIO v.s. PCI-X (or whatever it;s name is now) battle will be a big deciding point for the industry. I fell the NGIO camp will win out because of:

1. Better design and future growth
2. More support by industry leaders (DELL, Itel, Sun,...)

Intel is sked to display NGIO at it's developers conference on 23 Feb. The PCi-X group is "scrambling" to try and showcase theirs before that in order to steal the spotlight.

Jim -
Intel has lots of sharp engineers, and a lot of folks in the industry were questioning the bandwidth issue, so it's not surprising that they have come up with a fix. This is turning into a full-fledged bus war, which is not a good thing for anyone. Chris Dodd at Intel has done a lot of good thinking about the transport mechanisms.

I hope they sort this one out quickly.
