Bill, my ref to using options instead of shorting a stock was in the context of a stock - or the market - "going south", not the typical daytrader just playing the normal daily swings in a stock.

When this happens, it can be impossible to get into the short due to the "uptick" rule, but one can quickly - although not as quickly as a stock buy/sell - take an option position that gives them about the same profit/risks returns as the shorted stock - - but at MARKEDLY less cost to do so, one of the serious advantages of using options.

As I am sure you know, options and their uses are VERY complex but the more I learn about them the more I am wondering why anyone would ever purchase a stock again!
