It is a global problem and we are locked into a global economy. Even if we postulate that the US will miraculously solve all its y2k issues, we will still be faced with with need to convert our economy from global to national at the same time. All our resources and materials will need to come from within our compliant borders, and all our sales will have to go to US buyers only. And, we will also need to isolate ourselves from potential unpleantnesses which may occur elsewhere on the planet.

But, hey..... we're the USA .... we can do it.... right? I mean, after all there's over 11 1/2 months left.

(well, if we eliminate brute force and violence as part of the solution....)
