All,

I have to agree. My 450 combo is working great. Only crashes have been related to my POS Creative SB live and SP4. There is minimal risk and the price is dirt cheap.

Yes, the specifics do help. Have left a message for the TC salesman to discuss the order. I think I'll leave the memory alone as what I ordered is $199 & would serve if I do drop in another processor at a later date. I think I'll probably need a bigger case which is ok, & will ask about the fan.
Evidently they do have a 400 celeron (as well as a 333). The 333 is $225. At my level of expertise it might be better to get the 400 celeron & not o.c. it :-)
Anyway, I can't believe I've gone from deciding a new computer would be better than a $700 multimonitor card to sifting through to a computer that has speed, 128mb memory & 5 slots for (possibly) not much more than $1000. Yikes again, & thanks to all for the input!! d. alexander

Count me in

I do not know what I will do with it yet but I just ordered the Papa CAS2 bundle from Mushkin. ABIT BH6..Celeron 300A Retail (factory fan) and 128 MB Samsung GH PC100 CAS2 SDRAM...not tested. I will take my chances. I can live with a 300..

Is there a problem overclocking with CAS2 RAM? The other bundles are designated *CLOCK* and use Samsung G8 SDRAM.

I will either swap out the Iwill mobo with Pentium 200 MMX or just steel some of its harddrives and CDROMs and put them in a new case.

more decisions...

ps

In April an Intel roadmap home1.swipnet.se lists the 450 at $395. Six months from now it will still be hard to match this combo...barring more surprises. Upgrading a 450 system to a 500 system will not be very enticive. I think we are more than six months ahead of the curve.
