Iraq sanctions may be on the the way out. But not before OPEC agrees on what their quota should be methinks. thr 013 s.arabia-iraq saudi initiative to lift sanctions on iraq athens, jan. 10, irna --- in what is seen as an important political development, saudi arabia has put forward a proposal to lift sanctions on iraq which includes lifting on the ceiling of baghdad's oil sale, saudi daily ''al-sharq al-awsat'' sunday reported. the arab paper said the saudi text of the proposal was prepared following orders by king fahd and consequently by crown prince abdallah ibn abdul aziz and the proposal was studied behind closed doors. international consultations on the saudi proposal has already started and it will be presented officially before the united nations soon after the concerned international parties are convinced to accept them, noted the arab paper which is published from london. the saudi delegation will place the proposal at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the persian gulf cooperation council which is to be held sunday. it is expected that saudi foreign minister saud al-faisal will carry the proposal with him to the arab foreign ministers' meeting to be held on 24 january in cairo. the saudi proposal permits iraq to buy and sell all goods except military equipment or material that could be used for military purposes. nk/ks end ::irna 10/01/99 13:09
