Well, if it makes you feel any better, I do think of you as sort of like a brother. You do remind me of my brother, except more articulate, and less of a pain. It sounds as if you have it all figured out, except for the "can" part. That I don't understand, so I can't help you.

I do sympathise with something you are not saying, about the nature of force involved, it's certainly not voluntary, which is actually pretty rotten. It really is most egregious when someone starts a case frivolously, either a frivolous lawsuit, or a spurious criminal case. The entire weight and majesty of the justice system blindly wheels into action, regardless of the validity of the case that is being processed. Defendants receive summons served by sheriffs, jurors likewise, and if you don't co-operate with jury duty, you can get put in jail or fined. So, I don't blame you a bit for feeling dragooned. Pressed. It's a civic duty unlike most, except paying taxes, can't get out of that, either.

But, you are doing right to focus on what is really at stake, the rights and liabilities of the individuals involved. The system is blind, cruel, stupid, archaic, anachronistic, slipshod. But these are real people here, who need your help. Some of them, anyway.
