Investors probably said the same thing about Sun hitting ninety being a stretch, now look at it. It had a long base too. In any case, isn't it interesting that now that the turnaround is complete (lotsa profits, growing revs and market share) the takeover talk is starting again? Seems to me that Apple's margins are very close to what they were last quarter. We've got a ton more units sold and OS 8.5 revs of $50+ million on the positive side, and associated extra marketing costs (not that much) on the negative. Should be a fine report Wednesday and who's to say that Apple won't be slightly overvalued after being undervalued for a long time? I'm still tickled over how well Apple is executing. There's just a stray 266 or two at my local Mac stores and the iMac piles aren't bad. Ie, at $999 or so they will move within the month. As usual, I saw someone wheeling an iMac out of ComputerWare as I walked up. Meanwhile, Apple really seems to have done a great job getting the Yosemites out there. MacMall, Tekserve, etc. Even better, look at how the numbers are skewing towards the higher speeds. It makes sense--if the machines are essentially the same and Apple has enough of the faster chips, why not make extra 350s and 400s until production can keep up? Here's further news from Macintouch on Apple Stores and new product availability: <<Although readers had trouble finding the new Macs immediately after their introduction, the systems now seem to be reaching buyers, at least in limited volumes. Mail order vendors, including the Apple Store, are now delivering some translucent G3's, and two readers report getting 400-MHz models. Resellers outside the U.S. seem to have received good supplies at least as quickly as U.S. stores. New iMacs seem to be arriving a bit behind the blue G3's, and several resellers noted Apple's iMac 5-pack packaging, in which the store can order only a bundle that contains one new iMac in each of the 5 colors. The revamped Apple Store now includes an "order status" button, and most of the new, international Apple Stores are now open, although Australia's was not ready this morning, and there's still none for Canada. (Canada reportedly will have English iMacs and blue G3's by next week, with French models delayed until the end of the month.) Jeffrey Yu noticed that G3 Servers have made their way into the store as "build-to-order" items (although not with OS X Server). "Availability is listed as, 'Coming Soon....in Mid-January.'" He also notes that the build-to-order option for three 36-GB Ultra2 SCSI drives, and the 1-gigabit Ethernet PCI card, are listed for March availability. Steve Riggins ordered a blue G3 from the Apple Store and will chronicle the process, estimated at "2-3 weeks.">> Marc
