This is certainly as good an explanation as anyone else has presented. When people claim it's "running in the lab" they mean 1 or 4 possible things.

#1 It's so full of bugs we can't sell it.
#2 It's too slow to be an effective product.
#3 The yields are so bad we can't manufacture it.
#4 A combination of all of the above.

"Running in the lab" is a lame excuse any way you cut it. It just means it isn't ready yet. You've been there. You've seen new products go through the development cycle. Too bad these guys don't know the difference between hype and a real product.
