If you have not seen the movie "Babbettes Feast" rent it. That is what the movie is all about. The middle ground. The joy of life, that comes when you are not expecting it- and when you might even be a bit afraid of the differences- but find that sometimes they can enhance life. It is also about community, and life choices, religious infighting, and petty squabbles- just about everything we have touched on here. I love the movie and watch it often. It makes me feel good. I hope it makes you feel good too. I remember a Chinese story book I had when I was a little girl about a child's search for the God of Happiness. She only came near him when she forgot she was looking for him- and he vanished the minute she remembered what her purpose was.

good night and sweet dreams.

Good Morning, jpmac, and thanks for the nice post. Sorry to hear about your CFD - is that "chronic fatigue syndrome"? What are your symptoms, if I may ask?

I am presently being treated for several things, but the treatments are working. I am getting antibiotic therapy for rheumatoid arthritis, my doctor switched antibiotics last week, and I feel essentially pain free, disability free, for the first time since August, 1998. In the meantime, I was diagnosed with hypothyroid, and am taking synthetic thyroid, and also my doctor decided to put me on glucophage because I had gained a lot of weight. It is used to treat diabetics, it helps muscle tissue use insulin more effectively, but the thinking now is to give it for insulin resistance. My blood sugar was normal, I am not diabetic, but insulin resistance is a newly identified phenomenon, it is also called Syndrome X, and is thought to be the cause of athersclerosis and diabetes. The glucophage is really helping me lose weight. I am also on a good diet, no sugar, high fiber, lots of vegetables. I feel so much better.
