My recollection is that they have done quite well over the past decade. They have grown substantially and are known to be THE big player in small caps.

they have done poorly in the last year because the market has moved to a large-cap orientation. DFA explicitly deals explicitly in small-caps with low market price to book ratios.

To call the owners academic-types "trying to play fund manager" reveals a lack of knowledge. Euagene Fama established modern portfolio theory of stocks and his views lead to the establishment of passive index funds. Scholes and Miller established derivitive pricing theory and their option theory established the pricing of options. Just about every professional on the street uses the tools these guys developed. You wouldn't have anyone and I mean anyone of the street saying these guys don't know how to manage funds.

Larry, I guess the Dimensional fund will be rated # 1 by the Wall Street Journal at the end of 99...with all their holdings in VLNC...eh...remember the thin line between being called a looser and being called a genius ???....btw....how many turned out to be Investor geniuses.......that were called nuts...when they invested in Microsoft many years ago??? so you reveal yourself as just a basher...and your credibility has just gone down to 0.000.......you are officially no more credible than DARKGREEN anymore....get a life besides the Internet....guess nobody wants to play with you outside the Internet eh.....
